Arran High School is a six year non-denominational comprehensive school situated in the village of Lamlash on the east coast of the Arran. It serves all the villages and surrounding areas of the island. The school roll in September 2020 is 242 pupils.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The High School has very strong links with the seven associated primaries which \u2013 together with Arran High School – form the Arran cluster group. The cluster Head Teachers meet on regular occasions during the year to discuss Curriculum for Excellence developments, to plan the primary\/secondary transition process including the induction programme and to discuss areas of mutual concern. The school prides itself in providing an inclusive education for all its pupils regardless of social background or specific needs.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Throughout the first three years of Arran High School pupils experience Broad General Education with a wide variety of subjects and experiences which provides all pupils with an appropriate level of challenge and progression. During S3 there is some specialisation available to pupils in preparation for S4 but pupils continue to enjoy a very varied curriculum. At the end of S3 pupils select 6 subjects to continue into the Senior Phase. A wide choice is available to meet the needs and interests of all pupils and to provide the qualifications required for the careers to which they aspire. All pupils receive qualifications at the end of S4, the majority at National 5 and National 4 level. In S5 pupils select 5 or 6 subjects in which to progress to a higher qualification level. In S6 pupils select further subjects at more advanced levels while also having the opportunity to pursue more individualised timetables which can include work experience, community work, college link placements and Wider Achievement Awards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Attendance is very good with a 93% attendance rate which is above both the North Ayrshire and the National averages.\u00a0 Very few pupils leave school at their Earliest Leaving Date with the majority remaining at school until S6.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A new state-of-the-art school was opened in January 2008 funded through the Public Private Partnership programme. As a result janitorial, cleaning and maintenance is provided by the facility management company Mitie.\u00a0 The school has an excellent reputation both on the island and in North Ayrshire. It also has strong and effective links with parents and with the island community. The Arran High School Parent Council met on a monthly basis during term time and took a very active interest in promoting the school.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
