Children in Need

Arran High School raised a total of £234.54 for Children in Need on Friday by having a Non-Uniform Spotty Day and a Pupils v Staff Quiz in the afternoon, which took the form of favourite game shows Pointless & Family Fortunes. It also included rounds of Riddles & General Knowledge questions.

Remembrance Day

Arran High school held a Remembrance Assembly on Friday 11th and observed a two minute silence at 11.00am.

The short act of remembrance was led by the Mrs Jean Hunter with Fr N Colford and Alan Milligan of the Scottish Sub-Mariners Association. Music was supplied by M Beatan and M Hamill.   L Ashley played the Last Post and R Kerr piped the invited guests in and out. Poems were read by J McNeish and R Morrison. A collection was taken by prefects for ‘Poppy Scotland’. A total of £72.78 was raised.

The contribution of all those involved and the interested and respectful attention of staff and pupils made it a moving and meaningful assembly.

 

Arran Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Last Friday saw a number of Arran High School pupils receive Duke of Edinburgh Awards at Bronze, Silver & Gold Levels at the Arran Outdoor Education Centre. These were presented by Gavin Ferguson (NAC Development Worker – DofE & Achievement Awards). There were also a number of Kayaking Level & Coaching Awards presented to pupils by Ian Stapes (AOEC Centre Manager). DofE Diamond Challenge awards were also presented. Participants presented their kayaking expedition experiences to an audience of many before partaking in a feast of an Italian Buffet.

Sightseeing/Languages Trip to Paris – June 2017

We are hoping to take pupils on a trip to Paris next June 2017 for 6 nights. This trip would provide an opportunity to visit the World Famous Parisian Landmarks, enjoy Disneyland Paris Theme Parks and improve their Language Skills. Sports Awards

Last Friday Arran High School and Lamlash Primary School Campus have been awarded the 2016 North Ayrshire Community Sports Award for School Sport. This week also saw a visit from Sport Scotland to present the campus with the Sport Scotland Gold Award.

Mitie World of Work Day

S3 pupils took part in a Mitie World of Work Day event as part of community support work, where they received professional awareness training on Sustainable Development, Saving Energy/Recycling, top tips for career progress, interview tips, an overview of salaries in the green & facilities management industry. Key tasks for the pupils was to build a wind turbine using waste material and prizes were awarded. A fun day was had by all.

Ocean Youth Trust Trip – August 2016

During the first week back this term a number of pupils had an adventurous week with the Ocean Youth Trust on the Alba Explorer – a round world challenge yacht. It left Oban to navigate around the Mull of Kintyre and visited Ireland before setting sail on the return journey to Greenock. All the pupils had a wonderful time experiencing and gaining many skills.

A second trip has been planned for pupils in June 2017 and further information can be obtained from the school office
